John P. Kalaman Respect for Law Awards 2023

Every year one award is selected for the City of Centerville Police Department and one award is selected for the Washington Township Substation of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. Nominations are accepted from the peers of those eligible. All employees of the department are eligible, not just police officers.

The Wall That Heals and AOF Kickoff

The Wall that Heals is a traveling three-quarter size replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C. It is also a mobile education center and is a program of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund (founders of the wall). The exhibit opens on July 27, 2023. The Avenue of Flags committee had its annual kickoff meeting and put on a hilarious skit.

Dayton Children’s Hospital, Jena Pado, Plus CHS Culinary Arts National Competition

Jena Pado is the Chief Development Officer at Dayton Children’s Hospital. She told us about the state of health in our area and how Children’s is helping. She thanked CNO for all its support. The CHS Culinary Arts team is headed to a national business management competition in Washington D.C. on May 3, 2023. The team is prepared to showcase their winning idea: a Mexican restaurant that caters to the Latino community and gives back through their Tacos for Tots program.

Sleep in Heavenly Peace, Mike Watkins

Mike Watkins is the Butler County chapter president of Sleep in Heavenly Peace, a national organization with local chapters that provides beds for children who do not have access to them. Organizations sponsor Build Days. They provide both the money and the labor and, in just 3-4 hours, they have built as many as 140 beds, with an average of 50-60 beds per Build Day.
