Phather Phil’s Prayer
Friendship Prayer
I asked the Lord to bless you
As I prayed for you today
To guide you and protect you
As you go along your way
His love “is always with you”
His promises are true
And when we give Him all our cares
You know He will see us through
So when the road your traveling on
Seems difficult at best
Just remember I’m here praying –
And God will do the rest.

Happy Birthday to Several Members
There are people that we never get to experience singing Happy Birthday to because their birthday lands during our holiday break. Bob Duffy led us in singing a special holiday version for these individuals that was just as bad as usual.
Happy Birthday was sung to Liz Fultz, Jeff Brown, Cindy Gaboury, Paul Boeckman, Debe Dockins, Steve Mock, Jeff Papanek, Dave Kay, Molly Petsch, Christine Balsan, Kelly Stone, Sonny Singhvi, Rafael Santillan, and Joe Madden.
Thanks, Stan Fronzaglia, for suggesting the idea!
50/50 Drawing
Gary Smiga won $64.00 in today’s 50/50 drawing. He donated it to today’s speaker, Anne Sheehan, so she could buy more Acknowledging Acts of Kindness cards.
Anne Sheehan from Acknowledge Acts of Kindness Club
Jean Pummill introduced Anne Sheehan who started the Acknowledge Acts of Kindness Club (AAOK) in our area. She has been spreading the word by passing out cards and is hoping to speak to more people about spreading the word. More information can be found at aaokdayton.org. There is also a Facebook page.
Anne and her husband moved to the Dayton area because her kids all went to UD and they have 10 grandchildren that all live around here.
In March 2019, Anne and her husband visited the Villages in Florida, which is a 55 and over community. It was here that she read an article in The Villages Daily Sun about AAOK founded by Joe Santoro and Lindsay Collier in February 2019. She met with them. She asked if she could take the program and logo to Dayton and they immediately agreed.
Anne believes strongly in this program and its message. The point of the program is to acknowledge when you notice an act of kindness by giving a business card with a special message and thanking the person who performed the act of kindness. Anne will give a stack of business cards to anyone who requests them so they also can acknowledge acts of kindness. Anne’s hope is by giving these cards to anyone who asks for them, more people will think about being kind to others. She makes no money off of this program.
Anne put a box of business cards on each of the lunch tables today and they were taken by members in attendance. You can use her website to ask for more cards for free to hand out.
Anne has met with several individuals and schools in the area. These meetings have led to many more cards being distributed. They have included:
- Centerville HS and many other local and Dayton schools
- Centerville Mayor Brooks Compton
- Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley
She assures us we will enjoy giving out the cards when we witness an act of kindness. She said we will get more back than the effort it takes giving the cards.
Anne shared three personal stories about handing out AAOK cards.
She told us the story about her recent interaction with a local Hallmark store employee. Anne gave her a card because of the help the employee gave her. The employee said she had received 6 cards in the last 2 weeks.
Another example Anne gave occurred at Kroger’s recently. She was putting groceries in her car. A young woman was coming towards the store with her own cart ready to shop. She noticed that Anne was almost finished emptying her cart and smiled and said, “I will return your cart to the store for you.” Anne thought that was so nice of her and handed her a card. She got a huge smile on her face and thanked Anne.
Another instance was a friend of Anne’s forgetting a golf club in the pro shop at our golf club. This friend already had AAOK cards from Anne. It was a very hot day. One of the young men in the pro shop spotted the golf club she had forgotten to take. The young man from the pro shop went out into the crowded parking lot and tracked her down to return the club to her. She was so thankful and handed him an AAOK card as well. He was so surprised and loved its message as well.
She thanked CNO for letting us speak and looks forward to us spreading the word about Acknowledging Acts of Kindness.
Suggestions from AAOK Website for Handing Out Cards
- Give then a warm smile. Look for a return smile.
- Compliment and thank them for what they did (everyone likes compliments).
- Tell them a bit about the club and its purpose.
- Offer them a couple of cards to pass on.
- Tell them to keep up the good work and end with a Thumbs Up (universal sign) and a smile.
Example conversation, “Hi, I couldn’t help but notice that you have a great attitude (or just did something very kind, etc) and when I see that, I always like to recognize these efforts by giving you two of these cards – one to recognize you for what you’ve just done and the other for you to give to someone else. That way we can help spread a culture of kindness together. Thank you again for your attitude/kindness.”
New CNO Sergeant’s Decree of Immunity
Judge Jim long read the new “Decree of Immunity”. This decree is in the hope of sparing the current sergeants Donna Huss and Brandon Barrett from future pain and suffering in retribution from the incoming and future sergeants. This was just in time as this is their last time to be in charge for this quarter.
