Meeting Location
Ollie’s Place in Centerville Hosted our first Optimist 2.0 meeting of the New Year – providing excellent appetizers, beverages and service. There were a total of 58 members and guests in attendance – a record number. A special welcome to our Ohio District Optimist Governor – Tom Kendo and to Sue Armstrong, Governor-elect – for joining us at this evening’s meeting. Six of our guests submitted applications to join us in helping local kids – amazing! Thank you to Brent Richburg, Clint Freese, Mike Schwartz, Suzanne Werts, Jonathan Werts, and Laurie Westheimer! We look forward to inducting each of you into the Centerville Noon Optimist Club at our next monthly meeting. Our next Optimist 2.0 Meeting will be Thursday, February 15th at 5:30PM at Ollie’s Place. Do you know someone who needs a lift or enjoys being part of an award-winning world class local service club? – Invite them to come and see what Centerville Noon Optimist 2.0 is all about.

Today’s Speakers
Gary Smiga, Centerville Noon Optimist Club Treasurer, spoke about the donations the club makes to benefit our local kids – giving details on donations for scholarships, free youth events and donations to local schools and libraries. Gary also reviewed with everyone the three major fundraisers the Optimist Club conducts ewach year to raise the funds for donations – The Christmas Tree Sale, Avenue of Flags, and the Tom Frazier Tee-Off for Youth annual Golf Outing. Next, Centerville High School Coach Brent Ullery spoke to everyone about his life and the incredible opportunity he received (earlier than he expected) to coach the CHS Elks. Coah Ullery thanks the Optimist Club for their support of CHS and specifically that recent large donation the club made to fund the purchase of football helmets for the CHS football players that have impact sensors. The state-of-the-art helmets help protect the health of our kids by alerting coaches when a hit occurs that may require that concussion protocol be followed to protect the student.
