Bob Burkman’s Prayer
Heavenly Father. Here we are, the Noon Optimist Club of Centerville, recommitting ourselves for the 56th time, to enrich the lives of the children in our community. Everything old is new again.
Thank You for the new beginning You have provided. You have placed wonderful people in positions of leadership. You have brought like-minded members together to support our club’s goals.
We pray that You give us all the energy, wisdom and patience to enable us to continue the work that needs to be done for our youth.
Thank you, God, for new beginnings.
Amen
Welcome President Joan Cordonnier
Today was Joan’s first week as President of the Optimist Club of Centerville Noon. It was a great meeting. We look forward to the next year under her leadership and thank you for all the time you are about to give your club on behalf of the youth of our community.

Joan Cordonnier’s Changes for this Year
President Joan Cordonnier discussed some of the changes she would like to see this year.
Joan wants members old and new to get to know each other. One Tuesday each month there is a birthday table. If your birthday is during that month, please sit at that table. It will be a chance to get to know fellow members better. There is always a special sweet treat for everyone at the table.
On the same week as the birthday table, she also plans a seating mix-up day. Members will be randomly assigned to a table. CNO has a lot of new members and we all need to get to know them and each other better.
There will be a “Gratitude” speaker each week. She envisions this being a little more personal than a “Happy Buck.” An example was how today Joan Cordonnier said, “Being in front of people is not my strong suit, but I welcome the opportunity to grow.” Joan continued, “When you share gratitude it is contagious, and then others will share their gratitude.” If you have a “Gratitude” to share, let Joan know ahead of time and she will call on you during that portion of the meeting.
Yes for Parks, Reverend Harvey Smith
Debe Dockins introduced Reverend Harvey Smith. Harvey has served on the Centerville City School Board, the Park District Board, the Dayton YMCA Board, and is a founding member of Centerville Rotary Club and he has more than 50 years of perfect attendance.
Harvey came to talk to us on behalf of the Yes for Parks Levy. He told us about all the good the Centerville-Washington Park District does for our community. There is a 1.0-mil parks and recreation replacement levy on the November 7th, 2023, ballot.

The Centerville-Washington Park District has played a vital role in improving the quality of life for Washington Township and Centerville residents since 1959 – delivering fun, healthy and outstanding park experiences that connect the community with the outdoors. Centerville-Washington Park District operates eight community parks, nine nature parks and 34 neighborhood parks encompassing 1,063 acres in Centerville and Washington Township.
Each of the 51 parks has varying amenities. You’ll find a sprayground, a dog park, a skatepark and an archery range; top-notch sports fields; hiking trails and nature preserves; and more, all within the boundaries of one suburban Ohio community of 61,000 people.
The Park District offers over 750 programs every year that cover nature, recreation, adventure, and more! Your parks are what keep Centerville and Washington Township open, green and livable. For a full description of parks, amenities and programs, please visit www.cwpd.org.
The Park District is a separate entity from the City of Centerville and Washington Township.
