Today was the first of two Oratorical Contests. Since it was established in 1928, the Oratorical Contest has become the longest-running program sponsored by Optimist International. Our contest is done in collaboration with the Centerville Evening and South Metro Optimist clubs and is named in honor of former CNO member Margaret Barclay. She chaired the Oratorical committee for many years. She cared deeply about bringing out the best in kids and in living the Optimist Creed. She was a most beloved member of our club, a past president, and lived a life dedicated to helping others.

Anne Sheehan – “Acts of Kindness”

The point of the program is to acknowledge when you notice an act of kindness by giving a business card with a special message and thanking the person who performed the act of kindness. Anne will give a stack of business cards to anyone who requests them so they also can acknowledge acts of kindness. The hope is by giving these cards to anyone who asks for them, more people will think about being kind to others.
