Montgomery County Prosecutor – Mat Heck

The Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office processes 5000 felony cases per year. They do not handle misdemeanor cases as they are handled at the municipal cities and townships. They also handle thousands of juvenile related felonies. Their job is to use evidence to determine if a case should be prosecuted. The team abides by the policy of you are innocent until proven guilty. If they don’t think a suspect can be proven guilty then they don’t bring the case.

Club Day

Greg Griffin said that once a month during his term will be “Club Day.” Instead of a normal speaker the meeting will concentrate on internal club activities and information. Myron Rheaume, long-term CNO member and the Governor of the Great Ohio District of Optimist International briefly spoke to us about his slogan, “iMagine the Power of YOU!” Our club members use imagination and power of you. The power of you individually and collectively enables our club to do all the good that it does for the youth of our community.

2019-20 Officer Installation and Awards Presentation Dinner

Tonight we had a wonderful evening of feast and fellowship at The Presidential Banquet Center. This was a great night to celebrate the past year and to look forward to the next year. This is the end of the CNO Presidential year for Donna Huss and we welcomed 2019-2020 President Greg Griffin! He is the 52nd CNO President. New board members and vice-presidents were also installed this evening.

Dr. Rob Lober – Dayton Children’s Hospital – Beth Duncan – Optimist of the Year

The Optimist of the Year Award is chosen at a special meeting arranged and hosted by the previous year’s recipients. The voting group is composed of previous recipients of the award. This year’s Optimist of the Year is Beth Duncan. She joined CNO in 2016. Since then, some of the activities she has volunteered for are Avenue of Flags, Build a Bear, Easter Egg Hunt, and the Fishing Derby. She is the Chair of the Social Committee and she is a Christmas Tree Lot Captain.

Athletes in Action

Athletes in Action was founded in 1966 by Dave Hannah and the sports ministry of Cru Ministries. “Our mission is to build spiritual movements everywhere through the platform of sports so that everyone knows someone who truly follows Jesus.” They hope to have disciples on every college sport team in the “937” area code. There are 12 college athletic departments in that area.

Doug Flynn – Former Cincinnati Reds Baseball Player

When the “Big Red Machine” won the World Series in 1975 and 1976, Doug was on the team. He played in the Big Leagues for a few teams over 11 years. Beginning in 2013, Flynn works as a part-time radio broadcaster for the Cincinnati Reds. Doug and Johnny Bench run a golf tournament each year. The last one raise $680,000. Doug and Johnny Bench are close friends.

“Our mission is to promote the welfare and adoption of companion animals, and nurture loving, lifelong relationships between animals and people. To support our mission, SICSA offers numerous animal-centered programs and services for families and children.” They help people choose the pets that are best for them. They match a person’s wants and their capabilities. For example, a frail 75-year-old would not be matched with a St. Bernard.

TEDxDayton

Today’s speakers are both founding members of TEDxDayton, formed 7 years ago. TED created TEDx as a program of local, self-organized events that brings people together to share a TED-like experience. Diane Farrell is the Director of External Relations and Development for the Dayton Metro Library. Previously she was the Vice President of External Relations at the Dayton Society of Natural History. Ron Rollins is the Content Director of Community Engagement and Associate Editor at the Cox Media Group of Ohio. He oversees the Ideas and Voices pages for The Dayton Daily News, the Springfield News-Sun, the Middletown Journal and the Hamilton Journal-News.
