Tom Frazier Tee Off for Youth Golf Classic and Haunted Trail Skit

Erin Dickerson’s Prayer

We are likely all familiar with Psalm 46:10, “Be still and know that I am God,” yet we fail to live out this scripture in our lives.   We are a people constantly on the go, overloaded with responsibilities, wanting to be in control, and carrying the weight of our troubles with us.

Lord,

Help us to remember you are God and we are not.  You are in control, and we are not. Even you paused and took a day of rest.  May we take time to be still, let you help carry our burdens, and allow you to guide us.

Amen.

Tom Frazier Tee Off for Youth Golf Classic Recap

The 31st Annual Tom Frazier Tee Off for Youth Golf Classic was held on July 17, 2023. The committee chair, Sarah Umbreit, was unable to attend today’s meeting. Mike Bevis presented the recap.

Mike said that there were 124 golfers this year. Our partnership with Dayton Children’s Hospital is why we do this each year.

Thank You Major Sponsors

Mike thanked our major sponsors for their support.

Joining us for lunch today were Greg Stout and Stephanie Griffin from the Voss Auto Network and the Miami Valley Chevy Dealers Association. Thank you!

Thank you as well for the generosity of Watkins Heating and Cooling, Monica Stomps CPA and Bill’s Donuts.

In total there were over 85 sponsors of the great annual event and we raised $40,000.

Dayton Children’s Hospital

Representing Dayton Children’s were:

  • Adam Blanchard, Director of Donor Engagement
  • Kate Barrett, Nurse Manager for Hematology/Oncology
  • Beth Julian, Donor Engagement Associate
  • Peg Foley,  Gift Planning Manager

Mike Bevis introduced Adam Blanchard and Kate Barrett, who came today to accept the $12,000 donation for Dayton Children’s Hospital Hematology and Oncology department.

Adam said this year’s donation will be used to pay expenses incurred by the families of the kids that need highly specialized care at other hospitals. Adam said that CNO’s total donations to the Dayton Children’s Foundation over 21 years is now over $226,000. He truly appreciates CNO’s partnership with Dayton Children’s.

How Dayton Children’s Uses the Funds

Kate Barrett started off by saying every year she comes to this event she thinks that she really needs to become a member of our club. There is such positive energy in the room.

One of the biggest challenges for the parents after hearing the diagnosis of their child is often financial. Either the mother or the father needs to stop working so they can take care of the child.

In 2022, the foundation spent $18,000 on the Treatment Away Fund which helps with procedures like bone marrow transplants, which may take place in various places in the U.S.

In 2022, the foundation used $15,000 to support families with the Hematology/Oncology Patient assistance fund. This helps families with mortgage and rent, electric bills and more.

Thank You to All the Volunteers and Committee Members

Mike said there were 35 people on the 2023 golf committee. There were an additional 25 volunteers for the day of the event. Thanks to all who helped with another very successful Golf Outing.

The golf committee starts meeting in January each year for the July event.

Haunted Trail Information Skit

Today on the lunch tables there were various candies to remind us about the Haunted Trail community event coming up on October 10th and 11th, 2023.

The event needs several volunteers and you can sign up online using the Member Calendar.

Besides the two evenings of the event, they need help on October 9th during the day for setup and October 12th for tear down. High School kids help with the setup.

The skit put on today helped explain the various jobs needed in a funny way. Use the link at the bottom of this article to see pictures of the players.

The characters and actors were:

  • Max Ego, Larry Lynde
  • Ima Walker, Joan Cordonnier
  • Doe Baker, Nancy Lehren
  • Cam O’Flauge, Jim Mogan (wearing the Gilly suit)

Beth Duncan introduced Max Ego from WHAT-TV, “Where our ratings exceed our accuracy!”

Ima Walker explained to the not so intelligent Max Ego that with her flashing red flashlight, she could guide families through the Haunted Trail. It took way longer than you would think for Max Ego to get it. Note also that initially Ima Walker introduced her character as Ima Baker. I think someone didn’t read all her lines ahead of time. Practice makes perfect.

Doe Baker explained with careful details how the snacks of donut holes and apple cider are dispensed to the guests after walking the Haunted Trail. Again, Max Ego had to be walked very slowly through the process!

Cam O’Flauge introduced himself as the Grim Reaper. I guess he missed the memo that he was Cam O’Flauge.

Volunteer Types Needed for the Haunted Trail

  • Setup and Tear down on October 9 and 12
  • Trail Guides
  • People to wear the Gilly Suit
  • Witches at the Bonfire
  • Grim Reapers
  • People to wear the Jason mask and run the Chain Saw (it has no chain on it, it is just loud)

Join in on the fun! You will have a Howling good time!

Jay McAlpineHis son and CNO member Chris McAlpine sent CNO members to the wrong place for a presentation about the fishing pier donation request for RecPlex that CNO’s long range planning is going to be a major part of. It was at the township building not the RecPlex. Chris was not available, so they fined Jay since Jay must not have taught him direction skills properly.
