Shannon Clarke – Brigid’s Path

Phather Phil’s Prayer

Heavenly Father developing good routines and habits allows us to feel free to let our minds soar. The problem is we are the pilot and when the world does it’s tempting we have the propensity to listen. Then we find ourselves in a war without our armor of God. We’ll lose our sense of direction. Fortunately our mind jerks us back by the seat of our pants – to reality. The book we need to read wasn’t written by Hugh Hefner, but by You, Lord. Help us stay in reality for our directions. Amen!

Brigid’s Path – Shannon Clarke

Jean Pummill introduced Shannon Clarke, the volunteer coordinator for Brigid’s Path, a newborn recovery center offering grace, support and hope. Since they welcomed their first baby in December 2017, they have cared for 73 babies and families in the crisis of addiction. They are the first facility in Ohio to offer in-patient, home-like treatment. They have kept 61 of the 73 kids helped from having to enter the foster care system.

Their mission: “Brigid’s Path improves the health of newborn babies and mothers impacted by addiction. We offer grace for the past, support for the present, and hope for the future.”

They believe one person can make a difference if there is an army behind them.

They employ the latest therapeutic techniques – both medicinal and nonpharmacological – to help babies be as comfortable as possible while they experience withdrawal.

These babies have Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS). NAS is a group of behavioral and physical conditions a baby experiences when withdrawing from exposure to drugs in the womb. Shannon described it as being 100 times worse than the flu.

They ween the babies off the morphine for 15 days. The symptoms can linger for another 2 years after being weened.

They use a wholistic approach to mom and baby in a non-confrontational way.

They accept donations of money and time. You can get details at their website. Information is available on what it takes to become a cuddler. They are able to give babies comfort 24 x 7, something that a NICU cannot provide. They have a large need for cuddlers between 12 am and 6 am.
